Our Past
The Lake Cities Church family began worshipping together in September, 1999, many having previously worshipped together as part of the Southlake Church of Christ. Initially the congregation began meeting in the Grapevine Convention Center and charter membership by 43 family units was confirmed on October 3, 1999. Space was soon secured for lease in the Solana Office Park in Westlake. The name, Lake Cities Church of Christ, was selected. During this time, a leadership team was selected to make key decisions for this group of Christians. These men included David Halbert, Mark Story, Jim McNeill, and Carl Bradford. For the first year, preaching duties were performed by several on a fill-in or part-time basis. In the fall of 2000, Ron Rose was hired as the first full-time preacher and Michael Miller as the first full-time youth minister. From early in our history, special emphasis has been given to children and youth. Also innate in this church family is a concern for the less fortunate, with involvement and support for Fortress Church (inner-city Fort Worth) and Christ's Haven for Children. World missions is also a powerful attribute of this church. Early in our history, support began for a church planting in Santiago, Chile, and the Northwest Church in Sydney, Australia. Our own, Gary and Jennifer Williams were "sent out" as missionaries to Florence, Italy.
The first elders appointed were Bob Beustring, Skip Bryan, David Johnson, Rick Morgan, and Mark Story. As our body grew, the need for a permanent facility became apparent. Property was purchased on Highway 114 in the community of Trophy Club, along the northeast Tarrant County and southern Denton County lines. While construction proceeded, another temporary facility in Trophy Club, "The Chapel", came available for lease, giving the church a more permanent ministry setting in the community. In January, 2003, Rick Ross was hired to preach. Steve McMindes and Ron Cullum were appointed as additional Shepherds.
The new church building in the community of Trophy Club opened on March 1, 2004. Karen Black began her ministry in March, 2004 and Stephen Bailey was called to serve the church shortly thereafter in May, 2004, as the worship leader. In the fall of 2004 we became the sponsoring congregation for Luk and Holly Brazle, missionaries in Antwerp, Belgium. The summer of 2005 saw new leadership arise. Matt McBryde began serving as youth minister along with his wife Kyla in early June. Two months later, Joel and Kim Quile joined the leadership team on August 15th. When Joel became our Senior Minister, approximately 100 family units currently made up the Lake Cities Church with Sunday morning worship attendance averaging 170.
