WEEKLY SERMONS

Running On Empty

Running on Empty. Spiritual Emptiness. We all know what it is like to live life to the left of the slash. Join Lake Cities as we follow the fuel gage of the Elijah the prophet from the spirit full F of abundant living to the E of spiritual emptiness. We will eye witness Elijah experience through Exhaustion, Deception, Trepidation, Isolation, sadly to come sputtering to the suicidal stop of Desperation.

We will watch our hero of the faith, who has faced down the prophets and called down fire from heaven find himself face down in depression.

James says that Elijah was a man just like us but how many of us have commanded 850 false prophets to be slain, challenged and changed the heart of the people of Israel to acknowledge their need for God, prayed earnestly enough to cause rain to fall from heaven and end a 3.5 year drought? Oh yeah, did we mention that the man also outran the chariot of King Ahab back to the palace?

Journey with us as we watch Elijah go from FAVORITE to FUGITIVE in a matter of moments.

If we listen closely, we can hear the wound in his words,

“I’ve had enough Lord…take my life”

He must have thought things were now were going to change.
The reformation was coming.
Spiritual renewal was on the way.
But Elijah was in for a rude awakening, for when Ahab had gone home to tell Jezebel, she saw a husband falling apart under the pressure.
So she took matters into her own hands.
“Tomorrow, Elijah, you’re a dead man.”

This was not the response Elijah hoped for or expected.
In fact, it knocked him flat and sent him into an emotional tailspin.
Despair replaced faith.

He finds himself completely empty.

Elijah wants to give up.

But God won’t let him.

When Elijah finally pulls over, God takes over.

He fills Elijah up.

We all need that full service spiritual filling.

You might think that you’ve had enough.

God will tell you when you have.

But until then

Get up.

Shut up.

Look up.

And don’t give up.

He’ll fill you up.

Someday you will be like Elijah.

And God will come take you up.
